| Are Our Children Being Taught What God Wants Them To Know? |

A while back, my 13-year-old daughter (we’ll call her Gina) asked if she could be brought to a worship service at a local Christian fellowship. The fellowship rents the all purpose room at public school on Sundays to use for their services. As I pulled up in front of the school, I noticed a group of children skateboarding outside the building. What struck me was that they were Skateboarding right in front of a sign the read “No Skateboarding…by ordinance of…”; another thing I noticed was that one of the children had bright pink streaks in his hair. Gina exited the car and proceeded to go over to speak with the pinker streaked individual.
My wife and I entered the building to join the services as guests of one of the congregants. We watched as a steady stream of congregants, elders, and deacons, including the Pastor and his wife walk past these children without saying a word, other then good morning. As the service progressed, I came to realize that all these children were members of the fellowships youth group. I could not help but think, “What do they teach the children in this fellowship”. These children were blatantly breaking the law right in front of their parents, and the whole congregation, and no one said anything to them. A verse came to mind “Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient,” (Tit3:1)
Later Gina and I spoke about what is taught during the youth group meetings. She said that they go over Bible verses, and talk about Jesus forgiving our sins. Some times, we talk about praying in tongues. (I do not believe that speaking in tongues is Biblical, and certainly not as being taught today)
Jesus stated Mathew, Mark, and Luke, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus knew children should be taught from a young age. The Bible tells us this starting in Leviticus 10:11 “teach the children”. But what does the Bible tell us to teach? In the same verse, we read “all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken”. Today, we know that the entire Bible is the law of GOD.
What are the things we should teach, other then the Ten Commandments, and Christ Crucified and Resurrected? The Bible tells us: be meek, be humble, and obey GOD, parents, and those appointed over us. (Providing it does not go against the Word of GOD) Although we may not like it, God appoints Governments over us. We read this in Daniel 4:17.
As we near the end, Satan continues to chip away at the moral fiber of the world. The Bible teaches that we are to forgive; we are to love our neighbor; we are to be tolerant. Today our children are being taught to except behaviors that are clearly unbiblical. They are being taught this not only in schools, but at home on TV, and in our churches.
Skateboarding in front of a sign that say “No Skateboarding” is not obeying those appointed over us. Hot pink streaks in someone’s hair, is not being meek.
Find out what your children are being taught. Take the time to teach them the way the Bible instructs us in Deuteronomy 6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
We read in 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
