| If Jesus was God, how could He pray to God! |

And He also took on the form of a servant, giving up His heavenly glory (. Philippians 2:5-11).
The Bible says that Jesus is God in flesh, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.....and the word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:1, 14); and, "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form" (Col. 2:9). Jesus, therefore, has two natures. He is both God and man. Jesus is completely human, but He also has a divine nature. As a man, Jesus needed to pray. When He was praying he was not praying to Himself, but to God the Father. His praying showed His dependence upon His Father in His humanity to carry out His Father's plan of redemption.
We also need to remember that he was a fully man: For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Heb 2:17. Since Jesus possessed a dual nature, He was perfect God and perfect Man. As a human, Jesus shared our human experienced and the struggles that go with it. When Jesus Christ died on Cross his human nature died but not his divine nature.
Jesus' praying to the Father was a demonstration of His relationship, within the Trinity, with the Father and an example for us that we must rely on God, through prayer, for the strength and wisdom we need. |
